Solution:

Given,

→ 5x + 2y = -3 – (i)

→ x + 5y = 4 – (ii)

We have to find out the value of x and y.

Multiplying equation (ii) by 5, we get,

→ 5x + 25y = 20 – (iii)

Subtracting (i) from (iii), we get,

→ 5x + 25y - 5x - 2y = 20 - (-3)

→ 23y = 23

→ y = 23/23

→ y = 1

So, from (ii),

→ x + 5y = 4

→ x + 5 = 4

→ x = -1

Answer:

  • x = -1 and y = 1.

Step-by-step explanation:

5x + 2y = -3 ......... (1)

x + 5y = 4 ............ (2)

multiplying eqn (2) by 5

x × 5 + 5y ×5 = 4×5

5x + 25y = 20.......... (3)

subtracting eqn 1 and 3

5x + 2y = -3

- 5x + 25y = 20

----------------------------

- 23y = -23

y = 1

put y= 1 In eqn (2)

x + 5y = 4

x+ (5) =4

x = 4-5

x = -1
