Answer

  • x = 20/3 , y = 13/3

Given

  • 5x + 2y = 42
  • x + y = 11

To Find

  • Values of x & y

Solution

\tt 5x+2y=42...(1)\\\\\tt Now,x+y=11...(3)

Multiply with 2 on both sides ,

\implies \tt 2(x+y)=2(11)\\\\\implies \tt 2x+2y=22...(2)

Now , Solve (1) - (2) , we get ,

\implies \tt (5x+2y)-(2x+2y)=42-22\\\\\implies \tt 5x+2y-2x-2y=20\\\\\implies \tt 3x=20 \\\\\implies \tt x=\dfrac{20}{3}

Sub. x value in (3) , we get ,

\implies \tt y=11-\dfrac{20}{3}\\\\\implies \tt y=\dfrac{13}{3}
