ANSWER:

y = -1,x = 2

STEPS:

Here is your answer by using comparison method

5x+2y = 8 -- (i)

9x-5y = 23 -- (ii)

In equation (i(),

5x+2y = 8

5x = 8-2y

x = (8-2y)/5 -- (iii)

In equation (ii),

9x-5y = 23

9x = 23+5y

x = (23+5y)/9 -- (iv)

On comparing equation (iii) and (iv),we get

(8-2y)/5 = (23+5y)/9

(8-2y)×9 = (23+5y)×5

72-18y = 115+25y

72-115 = 25y+18y

43y = -43

y = -43/43

y = -1

On Substituting the value of y in the equation (iv),

we get

x = {23+5×(-1)}/9

x = (23-5)/9

x = 18/9

x = 2
