To solve this equation we need to apply substitution method :

5x + 3y = 35          ------ (1)

2x + 4y = 28          ------ (2)

From eq (1)

5x = 35 - 3y

x = 35 - 3y/5

Substituting value of x in eq (2)

2(35 - 3y / 5) + 4y = 28

70 - 6y / 5 + 4y/1 = 28

70 - 6y + 20y / 5 = 28

7 + 20y - 6y /5 = 28

7 + 14y / 5 = 28

7 + 14y = 28 × 5

7 + 14y = 140

14y = 140 - 7

14y = 133

y = 133/ 14

y = 9.5

Now substituting the value of y in eq(1)

5x + 3y = 35

5x + 3(9.5) = 35

5x + 28.5 = 35

5x = 35 - 28.5

5x = 6.5

x = 6.5/5

x = 1.3

∴ value of x is 1.3 and value of y is 9.5
