Answer:

5x +4y=4______1

x-12=20_______2

multiply equation 1 by 3

15x + 12y =12 ______3

add equation 3 and 2

15x+12y=12

+ x-12y = 20

16x=32

x=32/16

x=2

put x=2 in equation 2

2- 12y=20

12y=20-2

12y= 18

y = 18/12

y= 3/2

solution is

x=2 ; y 3/2

Here In your question two equations are given

i.e., 5x + 4y = 4..............[1]

______ X - 12y = 20..............[2]

Now using Elimination method.............(3)

(From chapter linear equations of two variable)

Take value of X from Equation [2]

X = 20 + 12y

Now put this value of X in equation [1]

5(20+12y) + 4y = 4

100 + 60y + 4y = 4

64y = 4 - 100

64y = -96

y = -96/64

y = -48/32 =-24/16 =-12/8 =-3/2

From here we got value of "y"

Now go in equation (3)

Put the value of "y" there

you'll get the value of "X"

X = 20 + 12y

So the value of "X" will be like this

x = 20 + 12( \frac{ - 3}{2})

x = 20 + ( - 18)

x = 20 - 18 = 2

Finally we got the answer

i.e., the value of X = 2 and Y = -3/2
