If 5x + 4y = 9 , 4x + 5y = 18 then x + y = 3

Given :

The equations 5x + 4y = 9 , 4x + 5y = 18

To find :

The value of x + y

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Write down the given equations

The given system of equations are

5x + 4y = 9 - - - - - - (1)

4x + 5y = 18 - - - - - - (2)

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of x + y

5x + 4y = 9 - - - - - - (1)

4x + 5y = 18 - - - - - - (2)

Adding Equation 1 and Equation 2 we get

9x + 9y = 27

⇒ 9( x + y ) = 27

⇒ x + y = 27/9

⇒ x + y = 3

The value of x + y = 3
