• Solve : 5x + 9 = 5 + 3x and check your result.

Solution:

We have,

=> 5x + 9 = 5 + 3x

• Change the sides of 3x and 9, Shift 3x from R.H.S to L.H.S and it will be -3x, Simillarly, Shift 9 from L.H.S to R.H.S and it will be -9.

=> 5x - 3x = 5 - 9

• Subtract 3x from 5x in L.H.S and 9 from 5 in R.H.S,

=> 2x = -4

• Divide both sides by 2,

=> $\rm \bf \frac{2x}{2} = \frac{-4}{2}$

• So, we get

=> x = -2

Check:

Put the value of x in the equation,

• First, Multuply 5 by -2 in L.H.S and 3 by -2 in R.H.S

=> 5(-2) + 9 = 5 + 3(-2)

• Add 9 and -10 in L.H.S and Subtract 6 from 5 in R.H.S

=> -10 + 9 = 5 - 6

• We get,

=> -1 = -1

L.H.S = R.H.S

• Hence, Checked.
