5x² - 2x - 3 = 0

We know that D = b² - 4ac

According to the equation:

a = 5

b = -2

c = -3

Substituting the values we get:

D = (-2)² - 4 (5) (-3)

D = 4 + 60

D = 64

We also know that

x = (-b ± √D)/2a

Therefore:

x = (-(-2) + √64) 2×5 ; (-(-2) - √64) 2×5

x = (2 + 8) 10 ; (2 - 8) 10

x = 10/10 ; -6/10

x = 1 ; -3/5

-3/5 will be rejected as it won't fit in the equation.

Therefore the value of x is 1
