5y^2 - 2 y - 2

this Is a quadratic equation with variable "y" so use ,

y = -b +- √(b^2 - 4 ac ) /2a

here a = 5 ,b = -2 , c = -2

y = -(-2 ) +- √( 4 + 40 ) / 10

y= 2 +- √44 /10

y = 2+- √ 2× 2 × 11 / 10

y = 2+- 2 √11 / 10

y = 2( 1 +- √11) / 10

y = 1+- √ 11 /5

y= 1+ √11 / 5 , 1 - √11 /5

y - (1+√11 / 5 ) = 0 , y - ( 1 - √11 ) /5 = 0

hence, factors of
5y^2 - 2y -2

= { y - (1 +√11 ) /5 } {y - ( 1- √11 ) /5 }

= { (y - 1 /5 )- √11 /5 } {(y- 1 /5) + √11 /5 }

hope it helps !
thank you !
