Five years ago,
Let the age of son was x 
age of jacob was 7x

5 years hence,

age of son = x + 5 + 5 = (x + 10) years 
age of jacob = 7x + 5 + 5 = (7x +10) years

According to the question,

7x + 10 = 3(x + 10)

7x + 10 = 3x + 30 

7x - 3x =30 - 10 

4x =20 

x = 20/4 

x = 5

Present age,

Of son = x + 5 
            = 5 + 5 
            = 10 years


Of jacob = 7x + 5 
               = 7(5) + 5
               = 35 + 5 
               = 40 years
