Then, according to the question...

(X–5) = 2(Y–5)----------(1)

& X = 5Y---------(2)

From equation (2) the X = 5Y
put up this value of X in equation (1)

(5Y–5) = 2Y–10


5Y–5 = 2Y–10

5Y–2Y = –10+5

3Y = –5

Y = –5/3

and from equation (2)
X = 5Y
X = 5×(–5/3)
X = –25/3

then the sum of their ages = X+Y =

–5/3+(–25/3)

–30/3

–10years
