Siddhartha Gautama was a Hindu prince of Northern India .He was born in 560 BC.He lived in a luxurious palace.When he was 29,he set foot outside palace for the first time.He noticed beggars and old people,who were sick and dying.He wondered why people suffer so badly .He left his palace and for six years wondered through India trying to find answers.When he failed,he punished himself by starvation and holding his breath.He sat under a big tree.Within a week,he realised truth.People suffer because of greed .To stop this ,they need to stop wanting things like money ,power and goods. He preached the religion of Buddhism.Many princes , peasants , men and women were his disciples.His followers called his the. "Buddha" or the "Enlightened one".
