As others mentioned, there are infinitely many possible sequences. The “easiest” answer may be that 6 to 36 is an increase of 30, and 36 to 72 is an increase of 36, and so from 72 to the next number could be an increase of 42, in which case 114 would be the next number. In fact, this “easy” answer is just a subset of an earlier answer which said any polynomial of sufficient degree would fit: We have, perhaps without realizing it, used finite differences to discover y=3x^2+21x-18, the lowest order polynomial which fits (and where x=1 gives the first term, x=2 the second term, and so on).
