c) 1 : 1

the ratio in which x-axis divides the line segment joining two points A(x1, y1) and B(x2, y2) is -y1:y2

the ratio in which x-axis divides the line segment joining two points A(-4,2) and B(4,-2) is

-2 : -2 = 1 : 1

hope it helps..

Answer:

Let the ratio be k : 1.

On x - axis = (x,0).

(mx2 + nx1/m + n , my2 + ny1/m + n).

(k(4) - 4/k + 1 , k(-2) + 2/k + 1).

(4k - 4/k + 1 , -2k + 2/k + 1).

x = 4k - 4/k + 1.

y = -2k + 2/k + 1 = 0.

-2k + 2/k + 1 = 0.

-2k + 2 = 0.

-2k = -2.

k = 1.

Hence the ratio is (c) 1 : 1.
