Given; mass of ball = .5 kg

velocity of ball = 8m/s

g(gravitational acceleration of earth ) = 9.8 m/s^2

to find ; maximum potential energy gained by ball.

SOLUTION ;

let ,the mass of ball be (m)

velocity of ball be (v)

as ,we know that ;

the potential energy of a body at it's maximum is equal to it's maximum kinetic energy.

so , maximum kinetic energy of ball = maximum potential energy of ball

then, by using k = 1/2 MV^2 for kinetic energy ,we get;

=> 1/2 ( 0.5 ) (8)^2

=> 1/2 × 0.5 × 64

=> 0.5 × 32

=> 16 joules ( maximum kinetic energy of ball)

as , kinetic energy = potential energy .

so, maximum potential ball gains at highest point is 16 joules.
