SOLUTION:

GIVEN : Cycle moving with 140 revolution per minute ( 60 sec)

Diameter = 60 cm

radius = D/2 = 60/2

Therefore, radius = 30 cm

a) Calculate the circumference of the circle

>> We know that circumference of a circle is

2 x pie x radius

2 x 22/7 x 30

= 188.57 cm

Therefore circumference is 188.57 cm

b) Calculate the speed per hour.

>>. We know that the cycle is travelling with a speed of 140 revolutions per minute

SPEED = DISTANCE

TIME

HERE, time = 1 hour

Distance = circumference x 140

because, 1 revolution = circumference

140 revolutions = circumference x 140

Distance = 188.57 x 140

= 26,399.8 cm ( 264 metres)

Hence,

Speed = 264 metres.

60 sec. ............. (2)

= 4.4 m/s

Speed in m/s = 4.4 m/s

Speed in km / hr = 4.4 x 18

THEREFORE SPEED = 15.84 km/hr

C) Calculate the area of semi circle.

>> We know that area of circle is

Pie x radius x radius

Therefore area of cemicircle is

1/2 x pie x radius x radius

1/2 x 22/7 x 30 x 30

= 1414.29 cm sq.

D) Find the distance travelled in 10 minutes.

We know that distance travelled per minute is 264 metres ( from 2)

Therefore, distance for 10 min is

= 264 x 10

= 2,640 metres

E) Write the benefits of cycling.

  • Cycling is good mainly for weight losing, muscular fitness, exercise etc

  • It reduces mental stress and reduce risk of heart disease.
