Answer

To compare the speed of x and y , x and y should be in the same unit.

\boxed{\sf Speed = \frac{Distance}{time}}

Speed of x \sf = \frac{1 km}{3 min}

\sf = \frac{1000}{180} m/sec

\sf = \frac{100}{18}

\sf = \frac{50}{9}

\sf\purple{= 5.55 m/sec }

Speed of y \sf = \frac{40m}{10sec}

\sf\purple{= 4 m/s}

So , 5.55 m/s > 4 m/s

\boxed{\mathrm\red{Speed\: of \:Car \:x > Speed\: of\: Car\: y}}

Hence, Car x had greater speed.
