6. A gas balloon has a volume of 106 L
when the temperature is 45°C and the
pressure is 740 mm of mercury. What will
its volume be at 20°C and 780 mm of

Combined Gas Law: P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2

P1 = initial pressure = 740.0 mm Hg

V1 = initial volume = 106.0 L

T1 = initial temperature = 40K

P2 = final pressure = 780.0 mm Hg

V2 = final volume = ?

T2 = final temperature = 30K

Solving for V2:

V2 = P1V1T2 / P2T1

V2 = (740)(106)(30) / (780)(40)

V2 = 75.42 L
