Solution :

Let x and y be the required numbers.

From data first :

x =  \frac{5}{8} y \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: ...(1)

From data second :

x + y = 104 ...(2)

Substitute (1) in (2), we get,

 \frac{5}{8} y + y = 104

 \frac{13}{8} y = 104

13y = 104 \times 8

13y = 832

y = 64

Put y=64 in (1)

x =  \frac{5}{8}  \times 64

x = 5 \times 8

x = 40

Answer : x = 40

y = 64
