6. A rectangular lawn measuring 50 m by 36 m is surrounded externally by a path which
is 2 m wide. Find the area of the path. Also calculate the cost of levelling of the path at
16 per m2

Step-by-step explanation:

length(l) of lawn = 50m

breadth(b)of lawn = 36m

width of path = 2m

so the,

length(L) of outer rectangle = 50+2+2 = 54m

breadth(B) of outer rectangle = 36+2+2 = 40m

Area of path = Area of outer rectangle - Area of inner lawn

= L×B - l×b

= 54×40 - 50×36

= 2160 - 1800

=360m^2

Cost of levelling path = 360×3.25

=Rs.1170

Solution

Let the length and breadth of rectangular lawn be L and B

Formula:

Area of a rectangle = length × breadth

So,

50m \: by \: 36m \: or \: 50m \times 36m

area \: of \: rectangle = 1800 {m}^{2}

 x = 1180 {m}^{2}

In this case :

Both length and breadth gets increased by 2 from both their ends

 = >  length(l) = 50 + 2 + 2 = 54m

 = >  breadth(b) = 36 + 2 + 2 = 40m

Formula:

area \: of \: rectangle + path = l \times b

 = >  area \: of \: rectangle + path = 54 \times 40

 = > z =  2160 {m}^{2}

Area of path= (z) - (x)

area \: of \: path = 2160(z) - 1800(x)

 = 360 {m}^{2}

Now the area of path is 360m2

Therefore the cost of levelling of the path

 =  > area \: of \: path(360) \times 16 = rs5760

hence \: the \: cost \: of \: levelling \: the \: path \: is \:  = \: rs 5760

ans \: rs5760
