6. A room is 12.5 m long and 8 m wide . A square carpet of side 8 m is laid on its floor . Find the area of the floor which is not carpeted .​

Answer:

To find the area not carpeted, we have to subtract the area of the room form the area of the square carpet

Rectangular Room:

Given length of the rectangular room = 12.5m

Given breadth of the rectangular room = 8m

Area of the rectangular room = length x breadth = 12.5m x 8m

⇒ 100cm²

Square Carpet:

Given side of the square carpet = 8m

Area of the square carpet = side x side = 8m x 8m

⇒ 64m²

Area of the floor not carpeted:

Area of the floor not carpeted = Area of the rectangular room - Area of the square carpet

⇒ 100m² - 64m²

⇒ 36m²

∴ The area of the floor which is not carpeted is 36cm²
