The required length of the cloth to cover the suitcase is 2.80 m

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Length of suitcase = 50 cm

Breadth of suitcase = 40 cm

Height of suitcase = 40 cm

To find : Length of tarpaulin cloth of width 40 cm

To cover the suitcase we have to find the total surface area suitcase

As we know

\text{Total surface area of cuboid}= 2(l\times b+b\times h+h\times l) where l is length b is breadth and h is height of cuboid

and area of rectangle = l' x b' where l' is length and b' is breadth of rectangle

Now

Total surface area of suitcase = Area of cloth required

2(l\times b+b\times h+h\times l) = l'\times b'\\\\\Rightarrow2(50\times 40+40\times 40+40\times 50)= l'\times 40 \\\\\Rightarrow l'= \dfrac{2\times 40(50+40+50)}{40} = 2\times 140 = 280

Hence, the required length of the cloth to cover the suitcase is 280 cm or 2.8 m
