6. A wave is described by the following equation:
y=(2.0mm) sin2pi [ t/0.01s - x/2.0cm ] i) Calculate the time period and the wavelength of the wave. ii) Obtain the expression for the velocity of the particles. iii) Calculate the speed of the particles at x = 3.0 cm, 4.0 cm and 6.0 cm at t = 0.01 s. iv) Calculate speed of the particles at x = 2.0 cm, at t = 0.011 s, 0.012 s and 0.013 s.

Answer:

A::B::C::D

Solution :

(a)

(b)

at x = 1 and t = 0.01 sec,

(c ) (i) at x = 3cm, t = 0.01 sec,

(ii)

at x = 7 cm, t =0.1 sec,

at x = 1cm, t = -0.011 sec,

(similarly the other two can be calculated).
