Cows and Buffaloes, like cattle and other ruminants, are mostly herbivorous and they feed mainly on products that are of vegetable origin.

Apart from feeding on grass, and hay, these animals can also be fed with straw, cereals like corn, forage, silage like that of alfa-alfa, non-leguminous fodder including grains like oats, maize, sorghum, etc.

Forage is the dry plant material that is eaten by animals. When it is mixed with water and fermented, it is called as silage.
