Given info : an iron block of dimension 10cm × 20cm × 5cm, its temperature is raised from 10°C to 40°C and coefficient of linear expansion is 1.2 × 10¯⁵/°C

To find : The change in volume of an iron ore is ...

solution : using formula, ∆V = V₀γ∆T

where V₀ is initial volume, γ is coefficient of volume expansion and ∆T is change in temperature.

here, V₀ = 10cm × 20cm × 5cm = 1000 cm³ = 10¯³ m³

γ = 3α = 3 × 1.2 × 10¯⁵/°C = 3.6 × 10¯⁵/°C

∆T = 30°C

now, ∆V = 10¯³ × 3.6 × 10¯⁵ × 30 m³

= 108 × 10^-8 m³

= 1.08 × 10¯⁶ m³

Therefore the change in volume of iron block is 1.08 × 10¯⁶ m³.
