6. Collective term for petals.

ANS:- Petals (collectively called the corolla) are also sterile floral parts that usually function as visually conspicuous elements serving to attract specific pollinators to the flower. The calyx and the corolla together are referred to as the perianth.

1. Define :

(a) Pedicel

ANS:- A pedicel is a stem that attaches a single flower to the inflorescence. Such inflorescences are described as pedicellate.

(b) Petaloid.

ANS:- The calyx (the sepals) and the corolla (the petals) are the outer sterile whorls of the flower, which together form what is known as the perianth. ... When the undifferentiated tepals resemble petals, they are referred to as "petaloid", as in petaloid monocots, orders of monocots with brightly coloured tepals.

2. Give one difference between complete and incomplete flower.

ANS:- Plants may have flowers that are complete or incomplete. If a flower has sepals, petals, pis- tils, and stamens, it is a complete flower. If a flower is missing one of those, it is an incom- plete flower. Imperfect flowers are always incomplete, but incomplete flowers may or may not be imperfect.

3. Give two differences between self and cross-pollination

ANS:- Self-pollination occurs when the pollen from the anther is deposited on the stigma of the same flower, or another flower on the same plant. Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower on a different individual of the same species.

4. What is fertilisation ?

ANS:- Fertilization is the fusion of haploid gametes, egg and sperm, to form the diploid zygote. Note though there can be subtle differences in the fertilization process which occurs naturally within the body or through reproductive technologies outside the body, the overall product in both cases is a diplod zygote.

5. Give the post fertilisation changes.

ANS:- Various changes take place after fertilization. These include endosperm and embryo development, maturation of the ovules to form seeds and maturation of the ovary to give rise to a fruit. The zygote divides to give rise to two cells called as the terminal cell and basal cell.
