Question

6. Cost of one dozen oranges is Rs.21.

(a) Find the cost of one score oranges.

(b) How many oranges can be purchased for Rs. 19.25?

ANSWER :

Cost of one dozen oranges = Rs.21

OR

Cost of 12 Oranges = Rs.21    [ \therefore as 1 dozen = 12 ]

So,

Cost of 1 Orange = \frac{21}{12} = Rs. 1.75

Now,

To be found :-

(a) cost of one score oranges

(b) number of oranges that will be purchased for Rs. 19.25

So,

(a) cost of one score oranges

= 1.75 × 20          [ \therefore as, 1 score = 20 ]

= Rs.35

(b) number of oranges that will be purchased for Rs. 19.25

= \frac{19.25}{1.75}

= 11 oranges

Hence,

(a) cost of one score oranges is Rs.35

(b) number of oranges that will be purchased for Rs. 19.25 is 11 oranges

(a) Cost of one Dozen Oranges = Rs. 21

One Dozen = 12

\implies 12 Oranges = Rs. 21

\implies 1 Oranges = Rs. \frac{21}{12} = 1.75

\implies 1 Oranges = Rs. 1.75

One Score = 20

Cost of One Score of Oranges = 20×Rs.1.75 = Rs. 35

(b)
Total cost of x Oranges = Rs. 19.25

Cost of 1 Orange ---- Rs. 1.75.
Cost of x Oranges --- Rs. 19.25

Cross Multiply
1×19.25 = 1.75×x.

\implies x = \frac{19.25}{1.75}

\implies x = 11

11 Oranges can be purchased for Rs. 19.25
