Answers
Answer 1:
If something like this were to happen to me, I would first of all tell the truth and apologize and say that I would definitely buy a necklace similar to that and replace it to the best of my capacity. I may not be able to buy it immediately, so I would buy some time and say I would buy one and return it within that time.
Answer 2:
Mathilde’s husband is a man who is truly in love with his wife and would not like to see her unhappy. He is so eager to please his wife that he is unable to think straight or at least reasonable. Had he done that he would not have slaved for ten long years to replace something that was not valuable. He is an honest, patient, contented man. Whose only aim seems to be his wife’s happiness.
Answer 3:
The event that changes Matilde’s life is the party her husband is invited to. She wants to pretend she fits in the social class and so borrows her wealthy friend’s jewel. She loses it and spends the rest of her life repaying her debt. In the process, she loses her beauty which was one of her prized possessions.
