Add equations ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) , we get
5a = 15
a = 15/5
a = 3 ,
put a = 3 in equation ( 2 ) , we get
3 × 3 + b = 5
9 + b = 5
b = 5 - 9
b = -4
Therefore ,
a + b = 3 + ( -4 )
= 3 - 4
= -1
I hope this helps you.
