Diagonal of a square = a√2

12 = a √2

a = 12/√2

Where a is the side of Square.

Now area = Side x Side

Area =

 \frac{12}{ \sqrt{2} }  \times  \frac{12}{ \sqrt{2} }

=

 \frac{144}{2}

= 72 cm
