expression ax2+bx+c=0 is 

=2a−b±b2−4ac

So for x2+5x−(a2+a−6)=

⇒2−5±25+4(a2+a−6)

⇒2−5±4a2+4a+1

⇒2−5±(a+1/2)2

=2−5±(a+1/2)
