ANSWER

Given:

Moles of C =

12

12

=1

Moles of O

2

=

32

20

=0.625

Reaction:

Let the moles of oxygen which react with C to form CO

2

be x

2C + O

2

→ 2CO

1−x (1−x)/2 1−x

C+O

2

→CO

2

We have, (1−x)/2+x=0.625

Hence, x=0.25

So, moles of carbon dioxide is equal to 0.25 and moles of carbon monoxide is equal to 0.75 .

So, mass of CO produced is 21 g and mass of CO

2

produced is 11 g.
