\huge\bf{Answer :}

Single displacement reaction :

  • In single displacement reaction, an element reacts with a compound and takes the place of another element of the compound.

  • Change in colour takes place and no precipitate forms in single displacement reaction.

  • It is slower than double displacement reaction.

Example of single displacement reaction :

1. \bf{Zn(s)+CuSO_4(aq)\longrightarrow ZnSO_4(aq)+Cu(s)}

2. \bf{CuSO_4(aq)+Fe(s)\longrightarrow FeSO_4(aq) + Cu(s)}

3. \bf{2Na(s)+2H_2O(l) \longrightarrow 2NaOH(aq)+H2(g)}

Double displacement reaction :

  • In double displacement reaction, compounds reacts each other and the manual exchange of ions takes place to form two new compounds.

  • Precipitate forms in double displacement reaction.

  • This reaction is faster than single displacement reaction.

Examples of double displacement reaction :

1. \bf{Na_2SO_4(aq)+BaCL_2(aq)\longrightarrow BaSO_4 \downarrow + 2NaCL(aq)}

2. \bf{Pb(NO_3)_2(aq)+2KL(aq)\longrightarrow + PbI_2(s)+2KNO_3(aq)}

3. \bf{NaOH(aq)+HCL(aq)\longrightarrow NaCl(aq)+H_2O(l)}
