There are 3 very important factors to self realization.

One is the awareness aspect of meditation. This comes from surrender. Allow everything to be as it is and rest in the allowing of it.

This is a surrender of ego. You surrender the urge to try and change this moment in any way. You surrender the urge to distract yourself from this moment. You surrender the urge to control this moment. When you surrender all of these, then you surrender ego and what is left is awareness.

The second factor is devotional. You give your attention to something, you offer your attention to something. This awakens the feeling aspect of self realization. It awakens love and bliss.

The third factor is Kundalini Shakti. When you sit with an enlightened teacher, their very presence transforms you and takes you deep into meditation.
