when x = 1

x ^3 - x ^2 - 13 x + k = 0

(1)^3 - (1)^2 - 13(1) +k = 0

1 - 1 - 13 + k = 0

0 - 13 + k = 0

k = 13

when x = -3 ( x+3=0)

x ^3 - x ^2 - 13 x + k = 0

(-3)^3 - (-3)^2 - 13 (-3) + k = 0 ( solving cube and squares of 3 )

-27 - 9 - 39 + k = 0

- 36 - 39 + k = 0

- 3 + k = 0

henxe , k = 3
