Given :-

  • Object distace (u) = -40cm
  • Image distace (v) = 10cm

To Find :-

  • The focal length (f) of the convex mirror.

Solution :-

Applying mirror formula :-

  \large{ \boxed{ \bold{ \sf{ \frac{1}{v} +  \frac{1}{u}  =  \frac{1}{f}  }}}}

[ Put values ]

 \mapsto  \:  \sf \:  \frac{1}{10}  +  \frac{1}{ - 40}  =  \frac{1}{f}

 \mapsto  \:  \sf \:  \frac{1}{10}  -  \frac{1}{40}  =  \frac{1}{f}

 \mapsto  \:  \sf \:  \frac{4 - 1}{40}  =  \frac{1}{f}

 \mapsto \:  \sf \:  \frac{3}{40}  =  \frac{1}{f}

 \mapsto  \:  \sf \: 3f = 40

  \mapsto  \:  \sf \: f =  \frac{40}{3}

 \mapsto  \:  { \boxed{ \blue{ \sf f= 13.3cm}}}

Hence,

  • The focal length of convex mirror is 13.3cm.
