Formula used : $nth$ term of an AP is,

$an=a+(n-1)d$

a is the first term and d is the common difference of an AP.

We have the values of common difference(d), n and an as,

⇒ $n=5$

⇒ $an=0$

By putting these values in formula we get the 'a'

⇒ $an=a+(n-1)d$

⇒ $0=a+(5-1)*(-2)$

⇒ $0=a+4*(-2)$

⇒ $0=a-8$

⇒ $a=8$

Hence we get the value of a is 8.
