Step-by-step explanation:

Given : In an AP the value of d=-2 , n=5 and an=0.

To find : The value of a.

Formula used : nth term of an AP is,

an=a+(n-1)d

a is the first term and d is the common difference of an AP.

  • Calculation for 'a'

We have the values of common difference(d), n and an as,

⇒  d=-2

⇒  n=5

an=0

By putting these values in formula we get the 'a'

⇒  an=a+(n-1)d

⇒  0=a+(5-1)*(-2)

⇒  0=a+4*(-2)

⇒  0=a-8

⇒  a=8

Hence we get the value of a is 8.
