Given:

AC = 12 cm

M is the mid-point of AB

N is the mid-point of BC

To find:

AN² + CM²

∵ M is the mid-point of AB

∴ BM = AB/2

∵ N is the mid-point of BC

∴ BN = BC/2

Now,

AN² + CM² = (AB² + NB²) + (MB² + BC²)

AN² + CM² = AB² + BC² +  1/4AB² + BC²

AN² + CM² = 5/4(AB² + BC²)

AN² + CM² = 5/4(AC)²

AN² + CM² = 180 cm
