Let the number = x

one fourth of the number = x / 4 ---( 1 )

two fifths of the number = 2x / 5----( 2 )

according to the problem given,

6 + ( 1 ) = ( 2 )

6 + x /4 = 2x / 5

6 = 2x / 5 - x / 4

6 = ( 8x - 5x ) / 20

6 = 3x/ 20

6 × ( 20 / 3 ) = x

2 × 20 = x

40 = x

x = 40

Therefore ,

The required number = x = 40
