Step-by-step explanation:

Given  Ramprakash is a stationer. He bought some pencils at 60 per dozen. One day a poor boy came to Ramprakash. He wanted to buy 2 pencils. But he had only 9 rupees. The  shopkeeper gave him two pencils for 9. The boy thanked Ramprakash and went away.

[Value Based Question]

(a) Find the SP of 1 pencil.

(b) Find the CP of 1 pencil

(c) Find the Ramprakash's loss and loss%.

(d) Here, which value did Ramprakash depict?

  • So cost of 1 dozen pencil is Rs 60
  • Cost of 1 pencil will be 60 / 12 = 5
  • Now the poor boy bought 2 pencils for Rs 9
  • So cost of 1 pencil will be 9/2 = 4.5
  • So cost price of 2 pencils will be 5 x 2 = Rs 10
  • Selling price of two pencils is Rs 9
  • So cost price is greater than selling price which is loss.
  • Therefore the shopkeeper has a loss of 10 – 9 = Re 1
  • So loss percentage will be = 1/10 x 100
  •                                          = 10 %
  • Ramprakash showed kindness towards the poor boy and helped him.
