6. Read the following paragraph and answer the questions-
if we live in the plains and suddenly go to high mountain regions,
experience difficulty in breathing for some days. We need to breat
when we are on high mountains. After some days, our body adjus
the changed conditions on the high mountain.
these changes are different from adaptation.
(i) What are such changes that take place in the body due
to the changes in the surrounding called? How these changes ar
different from adaptation? (2 marks)

Answer:

Following changes take place in our body

  • Increase in breathing rate and heart rate
  • Increase in blood pressure and pulse rate
  • Our body become oxygen deficient due to less pressure

Explanation:

At high altitude , due to less pressure oxygen molecules are relatively fewer in the same volume of air we inhale. Due to which demand of oxygen in our body increase and some physiological changes like, increase in number of red blood cells, increase in lungs size to facilitate osmosis of oxygen and carbon dioxide, take place in our body.

These changes are different from adaptation because generally adaptation is an irreversible change (if live in that surrounding for longer time) that occur due to change in environment ,and in opposite to this ,changes occurring due to moving to high altitude is just a temporary response to that environment.
