let's take point a and line segment bc
Then connect the A and B to form AB.
Take a perpendicular from BC which passes through point A and form AD perpendicular.
you will get a right angle triangle in which AB will be hypotenuse and AD will be hight so AB will be long then AD.
If you draw any line from A point on BC it will always form right angled triangle and AD will be altitude and shorter then hypotenuse.
