Let the desired time to fill the tank be xminutes.  

In 18mins, a tank is filled with  6pipes

As we know that the lesser the number of pipes more will be the time required by it to fill the tank.

So, this is a case of inverse proportion.

Therefore, 18\times6=x\times9

=>x=\frac{18\times6}{9} \\\\=>x=12

Hence, the time required for 9pipes to fill the tank is 12mins.
