Given:

Total strength of the class = 40

No. of absentees students = 6

To find:

percentage of the students present

Solution :

No. of students present = 40 - 6 = 34

so,

34 out of 40

(34/40 × 100)

= 85 ℅

Additional information

The word per cent means hundred for every hundred.

It is represented symblicly using the % sign.

For example :

  • 20/100 = 20 %

  • 50/100 = 50 %

How can we convert fraction into denominator when it is not 100 ?

➡ To convert a fraction into percent when the denominator is not hundred, just multiply the fraction by 100 and put the percentage symbol when the result obtained.

For example express 3/4 as percentage.

a) 3/4

Multiply it by 100

= 3/4 × 100

which is equal to 3 × 25 = 75%

Thus, 3/4 is equal to 75%
