Given : Sum of two extreme quartiles is 138 in a symmetric frequency distribution.

To Find :  median

Solution:

Quartiles

Q₁ =  Lower Quartile

Q₂ = Median

Q₃ = Upper Quartile

Q₁  and  Q₃  are  two extreme quartiles

in a symmetric frequency distribution.

Q₂ = (Q₁  +  Q₃  )/2

Q₁  +  Q₃  =  138 as Sum of two extreme quartiles is 138

=> Q₂ = 138/2

=> Q₂ = 69

median is 69
