Given

Area of a trapezium is 180 cm^2. One parralel side is longer than the other by 6 cm. The altitude is 9 cm.

To Find

Length of each side.

Assumption

Let one parallel side be x cm

Other parallel side = x + 6 cm

Answer and explanation

Area of a trapezium is altitude into sum of parallel sides divided by 2

That is

area =  \frac{1}{2} (x + y)h

So put the values in it

180 =  \frac{1}{2} (x + x + 6) \times 9

180 =  \frac{1}{2} (2x + 6) \times 9

 \frac{180 \times 2}{9}  = 2x + 6

40 = 2x + 6

34 = 2x

17 = x

Thus x = 17 cm

So other side is x + 6 = 17 + 6 = 23 cm
