The number of tiles, in rows and columns of a hall, are the same. A boy is  standing exactly on the middle of the tile in the hall. If there are 20 tiles ahead of  him in the column, how many tiles in all are there in the hall?

Your Answer

Given:-

  • number of rows = number of columns (in the room)
  • boy is standing in middle of the room
  • 20 tiles are ahead of the boy

To find:-

  • number of tiles

Solution:-

As the boy is standing in the middle of the room. So there must be odd number of tiles in the room. As even number have two mid points. So even number of tiles is a row is not possible.

According to the Question, 20 tiles are ahead of him, so 20 tiles will be behind of him as he is in the middle of the room.

Total tiles = 20 + 20 + 1 = 41

(1 is added because we have to count the tile on which he is standing)

So, total tiles in row = 41

and number of tiles in row = number of tiles in column

41 = number of tiles in column

Total number of tiles in the room =

\tt 41 \times 41 = 1681 \ \ tiles
