Reduction Chemical Reaction:

  • Reduction is a sub-type of REDOX reaction in which the following changes occur:

1. The substance undergoing reduction experiences reduction in the oxidation number.

2. Reduction reactions also mean addition of hydrogen (or any electro-positive atom) to the molecule.

3. Reduction can also refer to removal of oxygen (or any other electro-negative atom) from the molecule.

  • Please note that : isolated reduction reaction are not possible. Reduction reactions occur simultaneously with oxidation reactions and hence we name them as REDOX REACTIONS.
