Answer:

Let the age of the father be x.

And the age of the son be y.

So, The sum of the ages of father and his son is 44 years.

⇒ x + y = 44 —(1)

Now, after 6 years the father will be 3 times as old as his son.

⇒ x + 6 = 3(y + 6)

⇒ x + 6 = 3y + 18

⇒ x - 3y = 18 - 6

⇒ x - 3y = 12 —(2)

Subtracting (2) by (1),

x - 3y = 12

x + y = 44

________

-4y = -32

⇒ 4y = 32

⇒ y = 32/4

⇒ y = 8 years old

Now,

⇒ x + y = 44

⇒ x + 8 = 44

⇒ x = 44 - 8

⇒ x = 36 years old

OPTION (A) 36,8

Let us check the answer :

  • Equation 1 :

x + y = 44

⇒ 36 + 8

⇒ 44

  • Equation 2 :

x - 3y = 12

⇒ 36 - 3(8)

⇒ 36 - 24

⇒ 12

Hence,

Present age of father = x = 36 yrs.

Present age of son = y = 8 yrs.

Given :-

Sum  of the ages of father and his son is 44  years. If 6 years after the father will be 3 times as  old as his son,

To Find :-

Present ages

Solution :-

Let the age of son be x. Then, age of father 44 - c

After 6 years

Age of son = x + 6

Age of father = 44 - x + 6 = 50 - x

Now

3(x + 6) = 50 - x

3x + 18 = 50 - x

3x + x = 50 - 18

4x = 32

x = 32/4

x = 8

Age of son = 8 years

Age of father = 44 - x = 44 - 8 = 36 years
