6. Think and answer.
(a) We prepare a variety of foodstuffs
and dishes at home. Are we then
autotrophic organisms?
(b) Which organisms are greater in
number - autotrophs or heterotrophs ?
Why?
(c) The number of heterotrophs found
in desert regions is smaller. However,
they are found in greater numbers
in the sea. Why is this so?
(d) What damage or harm do
ectoparasitic and endoparasitic
animals cause?
(e) Why is plant food not produced in
any other parts of the plant except
the green ones?
Answers
Answer:
a. no we prepare we do not produce
b. heterotrops because they eat autrotrops
c. in desert there are no autrotrophic so no hetrotrops but in sea many autrotrophic so many hetrotrops
Answer:
a)No, we are not autotrophic. Even if we make our own food but the raw materials for that food is obtained from other organisms especially plants. But autotrophic organism get their raw materials from nature directly.
b)Heterotrophs are greater in numbers. This is because they derive food from other organisms which also include other heterotrophs. Another proof is food chain. Where the first one is always a autotroph and all the other organisms are heterotrophs.
c)Autotrophs don't exist very few in desert regions like cactus. Therefore the first heterotrophs of food chain which are plant eaters exist few. So, heterotrophs can't get food easily there. So, they exist less in desert region.
All aquatic animals are not limited to water. Organisms like Crab, Turtles etc. come out in open and obtain food from outside. The animals living in water only are omnivorous. But mostly eat others as plant life is not so huge in water. In water every organism eat each other. Small fishes are eaten by big ones and so on. While small fishes rely on the plant life as they can't find smaller prey.
d)Both are parasites so they depend on the host for their survival. They take nutrients from their host and slowly damage them. They harm them by doing this and become the reason for their death.
e) We know that energy can't be created(not talking about nuclear energy here). So autotrophic organisms need to convert some other energy into chemical energy to create food. This energy they use is light energy. This light energy is trapped inside the plants by chlorophyll which is the reason for the green color of the plants. So, only the green parts which are green because of chlorophyll(not if i paint them green) could make food through light energy.
